As a standalone film, perfectly serviceable Hollywood golden age throwback murder flick, in the context of the ti west trilogy falls slightly short of the ambient heights the prior two achieved, but a well deserved send off to Mia Goth’s titular character. The Substance 2024
Brilliant body horror, to a similar degree as John Carpenter, taken as a satire of Hollywood’s youth culture and the beauty industry’s anti ageing marketing campaigns it’s effective to a certain degree however it seems unwilling to decide between the two. Both were effective at different points of the movie altogether it feels a slightly inconsistent but enthralling watching experience it never lost my focus despite my complaints, and Stan Margaret Qualley (she was excellent in death stranding). Not a single bad performance.
