Portrait of a Lady on Fire 2019
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Well, I gotta say I really don’t understand the hype for this one. This was a painfully boring movie. I’ll give credit where credit is due, it’s well shot, well acted, and the lack of any score or soundtrack throughout the vast majority of the movie work in the film’s favor to lead to some great scenes where music is finally used later, like the bonfire scene and the ending theater scene. Donnie Brasco 1997
In an extremely crowded mafia genre which includes some of the greatest movies of all time (goodfellas, casino, the departed, the godfather, etc.), this movie doesn’t do a whole lot to stand out. It’s fine, it’s well acted, it’s has a few memorable scenes, but this is probably not one I’ll revisit when there are so many better options to choose from when I’m in the mood for a mafia movie.
