    the only thing I can really say, at an aesthetic level, is I wasn't sure about the fairly frequent soaring strings & sun-soaked landscape shots. but I think those don't belong in documentaries in general, let alone one on this subject

    to Diary of a Country Priest as Taxi Driver is to Pickpocket. but more than that, the curious sense of an emergent 'spiritual' cinema of a planet irreversibly saturated by the artificiality of human history (already presaged in Bergman's Persona, Rivette & Tarkovsky's Solaris). not a cinema of 'inner space', but one in wh/ the narrative-/image-space is an undecidable threshold between internal & external (Schrader must have been watching Twin Peaks: The Return closely). the final hard cut is as rich as that in The Sopranos: Made in America
