I’m pretty sure I was going to be on board for whatever type of movie Bong Joon-Ho decided to do next after Parasite. Did I expect it to be a Sci-Fi comedy tackling the existential question of “what is it like to die?” No.

On a bare-bones level, I think the movie’s structure and concept is very, very good. The entirety of the plot is exceptionally intriguing. But, I don’t think the execution quite worked. There’s a good chunk of half-baked plot lines that never get fully fleshed out, plus a couple secondary characters where the acting seemed off.

    Overall, good not great. 73/100

Yeah, this ain’t it. This movie is painfully boring for the first hour, and then as soon as the action and pace start to pick up, the story crumbles right before your eyes. Mackie can’t be a leading man, I’m sorry. Good actor, just give him a supporting role. Also, this thing looks terrible. I was hoping to at least just have some fun with this…sadly I did not. 48/100

SHE WORE A CROWN AND CAME DOWN IN A BUBBLE, DOUG!

I’ll admit, I was skeptical going into this, but, man, I was blown away leaving the theater. I know certain people will have their gripes, but this story was made for the big screen. Erivo and Grande have perfect chemistry, and the latter tapped into her inner Kristen Chenoweth so effortlessly it’s like she was the one who performed on Broadway all those years ago. The music is terrific (duh) and all the set and costume designs were brilliant and will certainly be good enough to garner all the nominations, in my opinion. 93/100
