Byzantium 2012
Love the little thumbnails. Saoirse Ronan's adolescent longing to feel seen and to connect with someone other than her harlot mother is such an interesting internal conflict. Feel the same about Arterton's character development from her past timeline as well. There are definitely parts that feel messy and poorly thought out; but the whole story just vibes. All of its elements keep you engaged.

There were several specialty shots throughout that had me scratching my head wondering how Murnau thought to do that. Sunrise is peak cinema history. The story is simple but the execution is pretty groundbreaking.

This is the highlight of my year. I've never seen a film that's elicited such a visceral physical response out of me as a viewer. In the span of 10 minutes I got nauseous and then laughed so hard that I cried.
