Decided to watch this movie after I saw that the director was Bong Joon-Ho. The cinematography style was similar to Parasite in that there were stunning shots (shaky zooms and rack focuses are AMAZING IMO).

I wish the merfolk/siren device was deeper—I would have loved to have seen more supernatural content.
Cinematography and characters were strong, and I loved the humor but I wish the narrative would’ve gone a little further...
Joaquin Phoenix created a very deep character in Arthur; his portrayal of Arthur showed deep thought and thouroughness.
However, the pacing was weird at times—making the story feel more superhero-comic-book-like or even theatrical.
In addition, I thought that Joker could have been made a little darker. Although Arthur was a convincing character, I didn’t feel as thearthened by him as I felt by Heath Ledger; Arthur did some heinous things, but he seemed more predictable and depressed than like a mastermind: methodical yet chaotic.
Therefore, three stars.
