What can I say about this that hasn’t already been said? It’s a classic for a reason and multiple viewings over the years haven’t lessened its impact.
Jack Pierce’s iconic make up on Boris Karloff, who puts in a magnificent wordless performance, still holds up today. The reveal is up there with Lon Chaney’s Phantom of The Opera, it must have elicited gasps when first released.

I wanted this to be great, I had high hopes that it would be, but it turned out to be merely good. I don’t know if what I watched was the extended cut but at 2 hours 12 it was a tad overlong so I would assume it was.
The downside is the wobbly accents and, at times, woeful dialogue. I get they were going for the language of the time, but I don’t believe for one second…Translated from by
