I forgot how meditative and soothing this film is. I was excited to see the wardrobe again and it certainly did not disappoint. forgot how perfect the score is and the way they use that gorgeous house to frame and move the characters about. the scene with the photoshoot, where they block Reynolds on the ground below Alma, was just stunning foreshadowing to the unraveling of the artist by his muse.…
the grounded nature of this film with its dialogue, locations, fewer plot lines etc etc intertwined with the blatant metaphors about love and loneliness is truly moving. so many wonderful moments. Sandler and Hoffman going toe to toe on a landline; the chaos of speaking on a payphone in the midst of a parade; Lena calling Barry at the front desk and him running through the halls to find her again.. beautifully shot, beautifully acted. funnier and crafted with more depth than I remember. ❤️🔥
paul, paul, paul. impeccable casting, writing, existential question asking, shot framing - the tracking shots in the factory floor, let alone all the wonderful blocking ! a lot to dig into here. I’ll be thinking about this one for a while. beautiful to take in both visually and thematically. it’ll make you wrestle with the questions that you’d rather ignore.
