The Good Girl 2002
A poor man’s Waitress. Aniston’s accent was really rough, the dark humor was often cringey, and I struggled to get a read on the main character (is she a sociopath or just selfish and bored?) watched as part of John C Reilly retrospective and though he had a small part he once again delivered in spades. So much emotion and character conveyed in just a handful of lines. He really does a hell of a job playing the pathetic dope.

Gangs of New York 2002
Very of the time. It felt like it could have broken into a musical at any point. It was giving Pirates of the Caribbean in that it was kind of cheesy but the production value and one particular standout performance made me forgive it. Watched it as part of my John C. Reilly retrospective and while he wasn’t in much of it, he had one of the few convincing Irish accents of the cast, and did a compelling job with a complex character.

Felt a little thin for such a heavy topic. Had a bit of trauma porn vibes. While I recognize this is a very realistic experience for many young LGBTQ people, I would have loved to see more of Alike’s joy, her interests and passions and personality beyond her sexuality. I didn’t feel like the movie did much to explore her character.
