Almodovar imagines worlds that are open, empathetic, unapologetically queer, aesthetically pleasing, and teeming with brilliant women. I have to imagine this is him showing the world as he dreams of it being. May we get there authentically, whatever the cost.

Mulholland Drive 2001
I saw this in theaters at 10:15 pm not knowing it was the night of daylight savings time (spring forward!) so the disorientation of being deep in reading Lynch lore post-film and wondering how the fuck it was suddenly 3 am really felt like it was of a piece with the experience of watching this movie.
Lynch really loves to put a blonde and a brunette in A Situation ™️ doesn't he??
I love that Hollywood let Lynch get away with being this pessimistic about the industry and STILL nominated him for best director. Another reason for why he's so goddamn special.

I should have been the prince of rats!
Look this movie is melodramatic as hell and in that way it worked for me. It’s beautiful, Nicholas Hoult is there being babygirl scream queen extraordinaire, and you got Willem Defoe in a wig and top hat. What more do you need for a great night out at the cinema? 2,000 trained rats? Well it’s got that too!
