While it doesn't really nail the landing, a big chunk of this is a sort of meditation/TED Talk on faith which is a major thematic happy place for me, with enough intrigue and gesturing at the supernatural to keep me on board almost all the way through. "I didn't set out to find the one true religion, but unfortunately I did" is a line with such menacing promise that while the final reveal can't possibly live up to it, it's a fun idea to chew on nonethless.
