Watched the 1947 film noir Out of the Past, starring Robert Mitchum, Jane Greer, and Kirk Douglas. Loved it. Hard to go into great detail without ruining anything - but you can guess it is about someone with a mysterious or dangerous past. Goddamn was it ever enjoyable. Mitchum oozes sleaze and charisma in equal measure and is also just so goddamn cool. In no small part due to his proclivity for cigarettes. From the wiki I learned Ebert dubbed…

Nosferatu the Vampyre 1979
I have now watched Werner Herzog's 1979 sorta half remake of Nosferatu/adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula - and much like The Fly, both the original 1922 silent film and this remake are both quite good. The Elephant Man 1980
I took down David Lynch's 1980 drama/biopic The Elephant Man, which I'm told is probably his most conventional film. Forbidden Planet 1956
The second one was 1956's Forbidden Planet, starring a young and hunkish leading man version of Leslie Nielsen. The production design really does a lot to make this timeless. That retro-futuristic 50's sci-fi look just works, and the whole thing is played pretty straight and it worked on me. The central sci-fi premises are pretty interesting and I won't go into detail lest anyone watch this. Just a quick and enjoyable sci-fi adventure flick.
