Longlegs 2024
This movie did not hit for me. When it seemed like we were looking at a conventional investigative thriller, I was on board. But once it turned superstitious, it just felt lame.
Maybe I’m being overly harsh given some of the hype this movie had on social media, but I did not like this movie.

Clint still has his fastball. I squirmed through this whole movie. What is “right” in a case like this?
Hoult’s performance delivered. He allowed the viewer to easily be able to see oneself in his shoes, and facing his dilemma.

Nickel Boys 2024
The dual-first person telling of this story worked for me. Time after time while watching this movie, I found myself thinking/feeling: this is a person just like me or anyone else; I couldn’t imagine facing these injustices.
Perhaps one of the most compelling structural elements to the story is how it begins. We see the main characters life as a child through his eyes, which is the same happy childhood moments many of us have.
Because the color of his skin, though, his life takes turns into incredible injustices.
This movie hit for me, and is a top 2 or 3 of 2024.
