Mandrake is a film that is too short for its own good. It is well acted, with strong performances from the two female leads and the supporting cast as well, but ultimately, what starts out really strong winds up quickly unraveling into a sloppy mess.
The first 30-40 minutes are really solid. The set up for an extremely effective and chilling folk horror is all there. But everything after that feels very abbreviated, as though there were an arbitrary runtime…
