love this movie and it being a journey of manhood. I’m also a huge sucker for the reluctant father-figure trope. The amount of Maori roles in this was also very very pleasing to see. The dog dying was sad though :( .

very intense horror. the co-opting of southern/midwest aesthetics to make the overall setting creepy, as well as the ensemble, made it very fun to watch. Its use of devil worship as the source of chaos however is rather outdated and makes the ending a little anticlimactic, at least for me, which does bring it down some.
