I liked it for what it was. It did everything that it was trying to do well, I just don’t think it exceeded any expectations. Christian Bale is always great in anything he does but personally the supporting cast did nothing for me. I really like Russel Crowe but Ben Wade as a character didn’t really connect with me. I get his motives and reasoning but I just don’t understand the story. It’s my fault I can not comprehend what was being shown in this film so I enjoyed the parts that I could.

I don’t know. I liked and disliked a lot of parts about this movie. Jeff Bridges was great as Father Flynn and the cinematography was stellar. However, I did not care or enjoy the Chris Hemsworth Billy Lee character or the story revolving around him. He felt like an over the top Tarantino villain in an overall grounded story. Maybe that was the point, that his obscurity is meant to be disarming but I just did not care at all and was annoyed by his presence the whole time.

This movie is so incredible and yet so horrifying.
Testing the limits a destroyed father will break in
order to find his daughter. The shots and overall
cinematography in this movie are bone chilling as
is the acting of every character in this film. Hugh
Jackman's rage, Jack Gyllenhaal's stoicism, and
Paul Dano's eeriness absolutely solidifies the
horrors one would commit in search of your kidnapped child. As awful and cruel as this story is, the movie is nothing more than a work of art.
