Brokeback Mountain 2005
A quieter, subtler film than I had been expecting. You have to watch for the body language and facial expressions. To see the faint upward curve of a mouth or a gaze that lasts for a little too long.

The Eternal Daughter 2022
This was a slow-moving, depressing film all about grieving and the complexities of mother-daughter relationships. Plenty of scenes of mired in silence and sobbing, making an uncomfortable space for the viewers as we sit and feel along with the main character’s grief.

Crimson Peak 2015
A quintessential gothic story, I ate this one up. From the costume design to the setting to the characters, everything was what I would hope to see in a gothic film. There are so few gothic films of this style out there, and I really feel like this movie fills that void in the cinema landscape.
I would definitely recommend this movie to fans of the gothic, and if you enjoy:
- crumbling estate settings
- “everything is not what it seems” vibes
- Edwardian period pieces
- Beautiful design
- Creepy ghosts and jump scaresTranslated from by
