A quieter, subtler film than I had been expecting. You have to watch for the body language and facial expressions. To see the faint upward curve of a mouth or a gaze that lasts for a little too long.

I absolutely loved the visual impact of this movie. The scenery, set in my home province, was stunning. Every scene had a gasp-worthy backdrop.

And as a friend pointed out, the soundtrack added those subtle cue shifts, which also ended up…

Unlikeable characters, the tension of a toxic industry, this was a trainwreck I couldn’t look away from. Overall, I thought the performances were excellent, though the story was just okay.

This was a slow-moving, depressing film all about grieving and the complexities of mother-daughter relationships. Plenty of scenes of mired in silence and sobbing, making an uncomfortable space for the viewers as we sit and feel along with the main character’s grief.

The gothic cinematography had me gasping every scene. I think gothic fans will appreciate this movie for the scenery and atmosphere. Personally, I liked it and was riveted throughout the movie.

A quintessential gothic story, I ate this one up. From the costume design to the setting to the characters, everything was what I would hope to see in a gothic film. There are so few gothic films of this style out there, and I really feel like this movie fills that void in the cinema landscape.

I would definitely recommend this movie to fans of the gothic, and if you enjoy:
    - crumbling estate settings
    - “everything is not what it seems” vibes
    - Edwardian period pieces
    - Beautiful design
    - Creepy ghosts and jump scares
