Yeah, the effects and production design are neat, but they ring hollow when they're not in service of a compelling story.
It would've been nice if the characters had actual personalities that made you feel some type of way about them instead of just being warm bodies acting out a series of events that are entirely derivative of far better movies.
There's still potential for high quality, low budget original sci-fi horror today. This isn't that. It's all sizzle, no steak.
Just watch Overlord (2018) instead.
