This was an unabashedly a black comedy and fuck YES. After Longlegs, which was really a marvel up until the third act, this was like a breath of fresh air to me from Perkins.
Didn't take itself too seriously, the gore and effects were supreme.
Makes me ALMOST forgive all the shit Perkins talks about modern horror filmmaking. Almost.
I am so happy Robert Pattinson is just leaning into the weird ass roles. Mark Ruffalo and Toni Colette rounding out the weird ass roles. Have to give major credit to Naomi Jackie as well.
It's weird AF, but so much to say lies just underneath its quirky exterior. I can see why this movie is divisive but I recommend it to those that love the strange and profound.
I so appreciate the opportunity to see low budget film making on a large screen. So much of the stylized shots and cinematography work well thanks to the direction of James Ashceoft - incredible performances by John Lithgow especially but Geoffrey Rush is notable as well.
