  Still enjoyable but stylistically impossible not to compare to THE BIG SHORT, and it falls short. The same intercutting imagery is less effective and more heavy-handed. Steve Carell doesn’t drown in prosthetics, which is what I was worried about for him. Christian Bale is INCREDIBLE as Cheney.

  Jessica Chastain shows herself more than capable of carrying this movie. Incredible charisma, expressive but stoic and doesn’t get bogged down by the dialogue. Fine directing but has a trademark preachy tone at times (the Crucible tie-in scene was dubiously conceived and poorly executed.) Also, I’m not the first to question Sorkin’s ability to write for women. The movie makes it (overly) emphatically clear that it’s MOLLY’S story, her (sorry) game. She’s at the center. And yet the men in the movie continually take the reins and guide her towards a redemptive ending. Not great.
