(logging almost a month later but!) was super excited for this but unfortunately it didn’t hit for me. i was expecting something totally different. i didn’t like the pacing, i didn’t like the way harrison dickinson’s character was written, i didn’t find it sexy at all (and maybe i wasn’t supposed to). what’s fascinating about it is that it kinda of feels like a horror film. the tone is very dark, very sad and pathetic and a bit ominous. i enjoyed and recognized that it’s really about sexual shame but overall, it missed the mark for me.

Ridiculous in a good way then in a bad way. The acting is actually really amazing though, even Selena in my opinion. And Zoe Saldana is simply one of the greatest actors working like seriously. That scene at the dinner when she realizes who Emilia is was great. It just all fell apart to me after that unfortunately.

“Your time today is through but you’ll spend eternity with angels and ghosts.”

I love every second of this movie but it’s this line, that scene, that conversation between elinor and jack conrad where it really sticks the landing. I’ve been having a babylon-induced existential crisis since my first viewing and now I might need to prolong it with a third one. What a special, special, special film!

i don’t know if it’s me still riding the high of just seeing this in theaters or if this is actually maybe one of my favorite movies ever. it’s a debaucherous, depraved, disgusting, chaotic, perfect mess of a film that will pull on the heartstrings of any person who is passionate about cinema and its insane and painful but important history. i haven’t stopped thinking about it since i got back from the theater. damien chazelle has done it again!!
