This is trying to do way too much story wise and thematically.
The conceits technically work together, but they also definitely create a hat on a hat on a hat effect. This makes it so story wise the pieces all come together but thematically nothing really works with the other pieces and sometimes doesn’t work the same throughout.
This was a fun little flick.
I think it might have come out in the wrong time when all the monsters we seem to be facing are out in the open but hey at least it falls like it has something to say.
That said, Malkovich is a blast and Edibiri has near perfected what she does.
Everything Everywhere All At Once is easily the best movie I’ve seen so far this year (2022) and it easily has entered my top 5 movies of all time.
Never has a title been so appropriate.
The script is hilarious and heartwarming. The action is a spectacle to behold. The performers are amazing and all deserve nods. Anyone in any Best Editing awards running for this year should live in fear.
It literally had me laughing one minute and crying the next.
This is what cinema is about.
I tell you what, Japan sure does like to put them junior high and high school students thru the meat grinder.
