A playful interrogation of the cowboy mythos, this film is the Gabriel García Marquez of Westerns.
The only thing preventing this film from receiving five stars, however, is the completely unnecessary romantic subplot. Perhaps it is part and parcel with the Western genre. Nonetheless, it feels lackluster in comparison to some of the other nuances explored in this film: mythology vs. capitalist realism, gender as performance, among others.
