This might actually be my favorite Trek Movie. Yes, I do think it's better than Wrath of Khan...
The premise is just really intriguing and really made me think of classic Trek episodes like Balance of Power and Arena where Starfleet members have to face their own prejudices against non-Federation folks. The Enterprise crew especially Kirk struggling with their feelings towards Klingons is really well done. Of course Spock is great.
And the ending did make me tear up just a bit.

Columbo is definitely too well dressed in this. Apart from that it's quite a memorable debut for an iconic character.

The movie is really well-made. The acting is good and it's well written.
However, some things about this movie haven't aged well. First of all, the hero is a rapist. Instead of addressing this properly the movie isn't really interested in that at all.
In general, women are treated very poorly. The antagonist is you're typical devouring mother archetype and the only other woman has no other function than to satisfy the men's sexual needs.
It's a classic and still an interesting watch today if you view it more as an artistic artifact. But I can't recommend it wholeheartedly.Translated from by -

This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
This movie is so early 2000s: The Marilyn Manson Soundtrack, the oh so gritty violence and the senseless nudity. I did have fun watching it. But it is not a good movie. The Story is paper thin and the action is cut in a way that could be generously described as fast-paced or, more truthfully, nauseating. The villain is an absolute cliché. However, he does get a dance number in the end. Nice.
