Better Man 2024
Won’t be particularly new ground to anyone who has watched a rags to riches biopic before and some bits are a little clunky (the angry chimpanzees in the crowd, the dad jokes in the narration) but the musical numbers are spot on, the celebrity cameos are artfully done and the journey is a satisfying and cathartic one. RW’s rehabilitation is rather rushed but you have to applaud him for how candid he chose to be too

Wicked 2024
Really enjoyed this. Cynthia Erivo nails all the songs, Ariana Grande the comic scenes and it looks beautiful as well as being suffused with star power and humour. There are a few weaker musical numbers and some of the plot features are either a bit ‘this is how the wicked witch got her hat!’ or slightly inexplicable to those not versed in the world of musical theatre (🙋♂️).

Elemental 2023
Thought this was pretty good - basically a family-friendly commentary on the complexities of love across different communities that does justice to the issue without being too preachy or unfair. I did consider crying a couple of times too. Perhaps my main criticism is that I don't know if the intended target audience (children) would be that fussed about it - while it's a sophisticated script and a colorful enough world the comic writing doesn't exactly jump off the page.
