Uncle Boonmee Who Can Recall His Past Lives 2010
When I was ten I started going to sleepaway diabetes camp for a week each summer. You could awaken in the night to people spilling into the cabin—efficient, scanning the room with head lamps red glowing. One would grab your hand and draw blood from it. Even if you were awake, they’d mutter as if only to themselves, as if unwatched. I knew to be grateful but would’ve liked something about it anyways—this person putting something in your hand, telling you to eat it. Not sweetly because you were asleep anyways. So much rustling, then returning to still, fallen night.
