Kingdom of Heaven 2005
For someone who even enjoyed Ridley Scott’s 1492, I’m quite surprised the director’s cut of this didn’t work for me. I’ll overlook historical inaccuracies when he makes Gladiator, but when it feels like a politically correct message is prioritized above all else it just doesn’t work. At times feels like pure propaganda in favour of a certain religion post-911 at the expense of Christianity.

The sexual abuse imagery becomes more apparent every rewatch. The elevator scene intercutting with Danny screaming is something that never really occurred to me as being symbolic of Jack’s abuse of his son until now. This sort of suggestive imagery in this film was always subconsciously apparent to me - especially during Jack’s “talk” with Danny - but it was always too disturbing for me to think about. This interpretation makes the ending much better imo with Danny finally escaping…

I think this has the most emotional final scene in cbm history. The lessons each character learns and the arcs they go through is so much more interesting than something formulaic like the ending of Wandavision, even if the tonal balance doesn’t always work
