Riddick 2013
The 3rd Riddick is a return to form for the franchise, and a great call-back to the 1st movie specifically.
Vin Diesel hits it out of the park in this installment, so much so that I think this is his best performance as this character in general.
The movie is book-ended by two scenes that connect it to the deeper lore presented in The Chronicles of Riddick, but overall this is just a stand-alone Riddick survival adventure.
Can't wait for the 4th one!

Ghost Dog: The Way of the Samurai 1999
It's like a fever dream. The subtext of this movie does an incredible job of building out a believable world.
I'll come right out and say it. Forest Whitaker is an extremely unlikely action star. He performs about as well as you'd expect in action scenes. But if you pay attention to the subtext and realize that he's taking on a bunch of burnt-out has-beens, this movie becomes one of the most believable action movies ever made.
