  ‘I am Ruth’ was a slow burner, tense to watch because of how realistic and yet melancholic the portrayals of everyday life were. Apparently the dialogue was fully improvised, which I think is why it is so naturalistic, along with the authentic documentary style of camerawork. I felt awkwardly sympathetic and angry simultaneously at both Ruth and Freya.
