  Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse 2018

  This is easily the best Spider-Man film released to theaters. While the story itself is a little weak, that is made up with an exceptional animation style. You also get a great score from Daniel Pemberton (his best work since "The Man from U.N.C.L.E.). The voice work is another standout here, with excellent use of Nicolas Cage as well.   Rumor has it M. Night Shyamalan wrote Split during the peak of his career (during the release of films like Unbreakable and Six Sense). Glass on the other hand was written after Split came out and made a ton of money. It shows.

  Alita: Battle Angel 2019

  At the time of writing Alita is the worst opening film for Fox in 15 years (originally written on February 17, 2019). I can see why but I'll also frustrated. An adaptation of a respect manga starring a CGI girl and Christoph Waltz and Mahershala Ali is not the kind of combination that is going to catch the dumb movie going masses.   A Star Is Born 2018

  ★★★★½ Added

  There's nothing that I will say here that hasn't been said yet. This film will deserve every Oscar award that it got. "Shallow" is powerfully and catchy. There is not a weak performance here (probably my favorite work from Sam Elliott, fight me). Blah blah blah. You've heard it all before. The two weak points, though, come in the cinematography and the pacing. The second act of the movie, where Ally's fame is on the rise, is very messy. These are not large gripes compare to the other pieces to a wonderful puzzle. This is a crowd pleaser I can get behind.
