I Love You, Man 2009
Just warm hearted fun. They really dont make small scope big cast comedies like this anymore. It skirts being juuuust too cheesy, and instead delivers a snort out of your nose, “I want to remember that line” type of comedy that isn’t gonna change your life, but you’ll have a good time. Performances are fun, writing is good and snappy, I’ll love Segel forever.
Definitely has some pacing issues, and the main conflict is predictable and overdone, but it stays…

Honestly super disappointing. Concept is so cool, and Pattinson rips, but it leaves so much on the table. There’s endless opportunities to explore possibilities of being able to just murder your protagonist on a whim, but instead it just shovels you 45 minutes of exposition while it wastes up it’s coolest concept (that the protagonist is allowed to die).
The political commentary was ridiculously heavyhanded. I think they were better ways to handle the political commentary, where Mark Ruffalo could’ve…

Asteroid City 2023
Probably my least favorite Anderson film, just too Anderson for his own good. There’s the DNA of a really good movie in here somewhere, but its buried under too many layers of confusing, unnecessary Hollywood-themed framework. Towards the end, when one of the characters leaves the set, I felt like there was a lot of untapped emotion and quality the film didn’t spend nearly enough time on.
