A road movie under the disguise of the civil war, cleverly waive the main characters' occupation - photojournalist its visual storytelling. The death is brief but impactful. Beautiful cinematography with being on the rather tele end of focal length when it comes to lens choice. It gives the image realistic, grounded look and seems to invite audience into the introspective headspace of the characters.

The Substance 2024
If the Sara Goldfarb storyline in Requiem for a Dream was elaborated in the style of the original film, the Shining and is directed by David Cronenberg, that would be very closed to the Substance.
Unsettling and alienating super wide angles and interesting use of image bubbles for flashback are some of the less obvious highlights. (I mean I don’t need to note down the body horror part, don’t I?)

Decision to Leave 2022
Razor sharp framing and storyboarding if I might describe it as such. Impeccable usage of frame in a frame composition and geometrically led wide shot. The ending is very Park Chan-wook.

86 EIGHTY-SIX 2021
This review may contain spoilers. I can handle the truth.
Brilliantly arranged perspective changes and nicely timed flashbacks for greater emotional impact. “Good editing”, if one can say so for an anime. I also notice the extensive use of match cut in transition and some quick inserts to better control the pacing of a scene. Perhaps being an anime it is easier to utilize such tool.
