  nice and lovecraftian but could have focussed more on either the themes of parenting and societies view on the mentally unstable and integrated that more into the plot with the horror elements just being an allegory for it or gone full cosmic horror and embraced it being a more thoughtless but enjoyable film from a sci fi/cosmic horror perspective similar to a colour out of space but with the pacing of children of men (personally think both would be great)…

  there’s no way nolan’s topping this. absolutely loved every second of this film with it intertwining the coen brothers lebowski style comedic writing and clooneys physical comedy it’s brilliant. whether your a fan of the book or not this films definitely one of the best ways you can experience the story (for anyone who doesn’t know it’s based on the odyssey but set in 1800’s america)

  very important film the be made, a great modern take on scorese's old and new. Of course it had some of the violence as seen in his earlier films but shared a lot of pacing elements from films like silence and shutter island. Definetly also held a very similar atmosphere to Sergio leone's westerns showing scorese's love for them. Got to love the de Niro and Di caprio chemistry throughout, casting was on point as always. If this is scorese's last it's definitely a good one to go out on

  It woukd be very strange to give this film a rating, I wouldn't describe it as much of a film but rather a surrealist experience, that being one that should be experienced by all film enjoyers.
