i LOVED how the separate storylines overlapped by the end omg, and the resolution?? and then the plot twist in the final flashback???? added so much context to resolve plot that hadn't even felt like a hole! and the aesthetic was so cohesive. only thing is i wish it had been easier to learn the characters' names at the beginning of the film, and to keep them straight. they dressed and made up christina so differently in the various scenes and settings that it took me a while to figure out it was the same person, especially in the early flashbacks.

it feels snobby. this movie hates its viewers.
the plot is not linear. not only is the narrator unreliable, but the whole movie is a mindfuck in a bad way. not fun to watch, i was confused the whole time. i understand how this appeals to some people, but by god i am NOT one of them. they do know how to stick to one aesthetic though, and that was pretty cool. aesthetic is the only reason this got one star instead of 1/2.Translated from by

i cried a fair bit. amazingly written and produced.
as a coming-of-age film, i can relate to very specific scenes. i have a core childhood memory of also practicing swears in the mirror to fit in and appear "tougher" and of the first time i cut a crop top.
as a historical fiction, i was fully unaware of the context. this film excellently combined filmed footage and historical news footage to tell a story.
i am always curious and interested…
