I wonder if the filmmaker had a relationship with a climber that ended badly and decided to slightly roast people who climb mountains because of this. Very much enjoyed this.
Does he have anything to gain from climbing on top of this mountain? Absolutely not. But that's what we do as humans. Unlikely and absurd things.

This film is a testimony of the beautiful gaze Kore-eda possesses and through which he makes us see these characters. Characters he carefully took the time to correctly paint, one caring brusshtroke after another, slowly revealing the whole picture. There is a lot to learn from his films, not only as filmmakers, but as humans. They way he treats the characters in his films, is the way we should all strive to treat each other.
