Emilia Parez is not an awful film, but, it is not a great film either. The general premise is an interesting idea but the execution was strange. Not in a good interesting way but in a dadaism way; where the film is reactionary to mainstream ideas which if we were to watch it with this mindset makes perfect sense why it's a musical.

Conclave is a brilliantly written mystery set during the election of a new pope. From the very start we're introduced to Cardinal Lawrence and a few other key cardinals all yearning for the new opportunity presented to them. Each character is wonderfully presented in their own self-righteous way but always appearing never worthy of the role of pope. We the viewer are forced to evaluate each for their pros and cons while simultaneously attempting to discern the hidden mystery.

Ainda Estou Aqui or I'm Still Here, is a beautiful Brazilian film that delves into the haunting, psychological trauma of oppression from a life under a dictatorship. We as viewers are given brief glimpses of military vehicles and aggressive police contrasted to a loving household that continues to express their individual freedoms and lifestyle before it comes crashing down as the eyes of facism casts it's gaze upon them.

It's quite simple, you shouldn't have to create a reason why the character has their motives. It should be explained either through visual story telling, acting, or a bit of both. Instead I'm left wondering what was this film trying to express. Sure the character wants survival but what else?
