Can’t help but feel deeply sorry for Mabel. She’s lost all autonomy as she’s assigned the role of obedient housewife by Nick.
I feel her mental illness just becomes an excuse for her to be treated so foul and she is powerless to defend herself.
I found the end so heartbreaking as Mabel finally resigns to Nicks control. They set up the bed as though they have hundreds of times and pretend nothing has happened.Complicated characters and hard to watch at times. But VERY poignant.
