The highs: the genuinely funny moments when it didn’t take itself too seriously and embraced its self-awareness, beautiful set design
The lows: overdid it with the pedantic writing and inconsistent tone, overall kinda messy and while the premise was creative and refreshing, the heavyhanded messaging only undermined it
But for a movie that feels more like a clever marketing campaign for a mass produced plastic doll, it’s about as good as you could expect.
Vertigo meets In the Mood for Love in a plot that doesn’t quite feel fully fleshed out, a winding path that takes several odd turns before reaching its poetic conclusion. Thoroughly enjoyed it from a technical and stylistic perspective, but couldn’t really connect with the romance at hand.
