Small Things Like These 2024
A subtly haunting film that does a lot by saying little. Emphasising tension and fear, the film whispers its plot to you, slowly revealing the corruption and abuse of women perpetrated by the Catholic Church in Ireland during the 20th century. Cillian Murphy’s character confronts his own trauma as he uncovers these secrets and tries to figure out what is the right thing to do. His performance is incredible, this is another film he should be winning awards for.

Enjoyable at points, inaccurate and lazy in others. Marisa Abela embodies Amy Whinehouse, but the films plot and writing let it down. The film attempts to be respectful and delicate, but in doing so tip toes around a lot of the big issues and avoids holding anyone accountable except for the press, instead presenting Whinehouse as a damsel in distress throughout the film.
