Even though you know what happens to Laura Palmer, you spend the entirety of this film grasping desperately to the hope that someone will help her. So rarely are victims of sexual abuse depicted with this much nuance and care. Maybe no one in Twin Peaks truly knew Laura, but David Lynch did.
