I heard it was disappointing and was pleasantly surprised. Maybe it was better because I went in with low expectations. It was fun and exciting in its own right without trying to be too similar to the first one or doing something crazy. They could’ve left out Monica Belluci’s entire character and story line though (even tho she was serving looks)
Let me start by saying that Paul Mescal’s Oscar nom is 1000% deserved IMO, and this movie’s ending was the most understated, emotionally jarring, beautiful scene I have EVER watched in a film. I would watch the movie again just to see Paul and his on screen daughter’s performances, but it did leave me wanting more at times. I think that’s the beauty of the movie, though. The movie is extremely nuanced and you have to read in between the lines, but anyone who has experienced loss or struggled with their mental health will be able to see the messages loud and clear.
