unironically enjoyed this. 2009 was a big year for the manic pixie dream girl. soundtrack was filled with bangers. obviously very cringe at points but felt like a parody of the stereotypical alternative guy and girl. not sure if the writers meant that at every turn, they may have accidentally cooked more than they even intended

felt similar to parasite in that its making a social critique through a specific genre style. instead of class analysis via horror, you get a critique of settler colonialism via scifi. felt like ruffalos character was a combination of trump and elon that was intentional. interesting that they ultimately do not leave the planet and thus the message of coexistence rather than retreat is given
