This movie is just so overflowing with charm. Every time I watch it I see a brand new chain of cultural call-backs. I would definitely classify it as one of those movies that is self-referential in a way. In a sense that its humor, style, etc fit the verisimilitude of the film and its main concept of time travel. And while yes the time travel aspect doesn’t always make much sense in fiction at least in this movie it stays…

First things first, it is obvious that many people poured their entire souls into this project and for that it is very commendable. On its own, it is a movie typical for Ghibli; meaning, beautiful animation, a whimsical score, and an incredibly expansive world.
