  A harrowing and deeply affecting portrayal of the unimaginable obstacles victims of sexual violence face simply to have their voices heard and to seek justice. The film powerfully exposes the patriarchal structures of power and silence that enable abusers. Her courage in standing against these forces was remarkable. There were moments that made me want to cry, moments that filled me with anger on her behalf, and others where I felt genuine fear for her

  As a debut film, I’d say it’s impressive — you can clearly see its influence echoed in many films today. I was leaning toward an overwhelmingly positive impression, until they had to ruin it with #that scene.

  They had me in the first half because the lead Seydou gives such an incredibly devastating performance that you get wrapped in the emotion of the movie but then it ends and you realise just how hollow the screenplay is when it has nothing say about European countries’ part in all of this.
