Standing as an anomaly in the franchise, Genysis is a one off fan service attempt at a franchise launching point. Fun. That's the best way to describe this one. All new cast playing familiar characters is hit or miss. The return of Arnold is always welcome and he delivers the big moments any fan hopes to see. At first, what feels likes a drastic shift from what came before, becomes a familiar return to where we started this franchise. Unfortunately, it doesn't reach the heights of the first film. Impressive performances, new lore, and ramping up the violence doesn't quite save this would be finale from feeling underwhelming. A standard does get set with this installment of no one being safe. . . Ever. I enjoy that aspect and how it carried on thru the franchise moving forward.
I truly wish I could have experienced this one in the theaters. Growing up with this film still left a massive impact. From the creature design to mysterious otherworldly feeling of the sets and technology, everything about the film had me wanting more of this world. This is the goal post for the space horror genre. From jump scares to the legitimate hopelessness of being alone with danger, Alien sets the tone and matains it from start to finish. Delivering iconic moments that stand up to this day it is a must watch for all cinema fans.
