I’m very surprised about the love this is getting. It plays like a very long episode of Black Mirror and it was repetitive, predictable and dull. One part boring, one part disgusting. Seconds is a masterpiece that deals with all these themes and more in less than two hours.

The performances are exceptional and there is a genuine nightmarish quality to Johnny’s werewolf-like descents. The supporting characters and after hours encounters are all memorable, particularly with the night watchman. While I don’t share Mike Leigh’s old fashioned Labour politics - which he wears on his sleeve - his insights into the human condition transcend ideology.
