  Ridley you sicko. I've never seen people be shredded to bits by cannon fire like in this. Very funny: "My compliments to the chef of this family." The haters can seethe, the muted dark colors of the Revolutionary tricolor are gorgeous.

  The horses hornily nuzzling d'Hubert and each other as he proposes to Adele, in a fit of giggles, filled me with joy. That's movie magic baby.

  If The Shining's Gold Room contained the last images of an American leisure class living and socializing openly, Eyes Wide Shut is Kubrick's vision of that class having burrowed itself into anonymity and seclusion. The entities that haunt Kubrick's characters are usually nameless and faceless. It's history that haunts the Overlook and its caretakers, and it's rapacious capital that haunts Harford.
