You are not prepared. This movie is absolutely fucking terrifying. Like holy shit. The sound design, the characters, the emotional turmoil for both the characters and the audience. There are so many layers.

There are the tiniest flashes of a cool fantasy movie in here, but it’s just not at all this one.
Read the script as a potential financing opportunity & really enjoyed the read. What would’ve been my biggest note around the ideological battle in the first 3rd being too didactic and heavy handed still very much stands though.
That said, generally love the changes to the last 3rd and the back and forth between Skarsgard and Hopkins is really entertaining. The very beginning set up and very end don’t fully land, but those were also probably super last minute additions.
Really fun and suprisingly very funny. Ready Player One captures the Spielberg wonder, yet not without some stumbles. The first 15 minutes are almost all voice-over exposition which definitely could’ve been done another way, but once you get past that the film really finds its groove. The live-action bits are perhaps where the film shines the brightest. And the cast has tons of chemistry both in and out of the game.
