This was my comfort film in middle school-- Joan Didion never really gripped me the way she did to so many of my friends, although I do appreciate her work, so it's a bit funny that it was this one out of all the movies in the world. Really good though. It was also the first documentary I enjoyed watching so props for that

Nostalgia 1983
Fire is almost a narrative device here-- the maid in Milan who burnt down the house she worked at as a means of setting herself free, the book of translated poetry, the immolation, the candle-- it's very precious to me... varying degrees of immediate, radical change; sometimes destructive, but always effective. So wonderful especially when contrasted against the slow melancholy of the water. Change is always coming-- it's a matter of pace.

You would not believe the psychological breakdown of the characters that was happening on the couch as my best friend and I were watching this it was like post-family gathering levels of analysis. Anyways absolutely loved

David Lynch: The Art Life 2016
The only thing that was important was what happened outside of school: people and relationships, slow dancing parties, big, big love, and dreams-- dark, fantastic dreams.
