    This and Haneke’s Amour are the two most direct and honest confrontations with ageing and death i’ve ever seen, two of the most powerful films you could ever watch. In both cases they’re films about a person watching the love of their life decline and die. Here that person is Akerman and the love of her life is her mother.

    The significance of the title is that Akerman’s mother was her home, especially since she grew up without a maternal grandmother…

    A surprisingly accessible film draped in the garb of something more forbidding. I wanted it to take more risks than it did. Acting-wise, Guy Pearce stole the show. Loved the News from Home-style segments, especially the opening on the boat. Wanted more.
